Student Team at Politecnico di Torino

Our Mission

ASTRA is a student team that aims to develop systems and subsystems for a functioning and independent moon base. To "design a moon base" means to imagine an entire system of components that work with each other in order to ensure life in hostile environments: from the design of settlements, to the study of the reuse and recycling of resources and energy, up to the use of robots that can perform tasks in parallel with the human presence.

Current Project: The Scout Rover

The team's inaugural project involves the construction of a spherical rover named Scout.
The scout rover is a space exploration vehicle designed to move across the surface of the Moon. It is capable to operate in the low-gravity vacuum of the Moon.
The spherical architecture offers manifold benefits: the rover eliminates the risk of overturning during motion, permits omnidirectional movement, and lends itself to the possibility of cooperative groupings of rovers to create a transport system capable of handling even bulky loads.

Our team

Team ASTRA seeks to develop concepts for components essential to establishing an independent and functional lunar base. The objective is to design a complete system of interrelated components to ensure viability on other planets. Achieving optimal design and development of the rover for this project necessitates collaboration among various areas of study.
